and so it begins!

On our way to the dig this morning, Lucy announced, "Jeffrey, you were right, I LOVE having a teacher here!"

Meet the children. Jeffrey, 7, was in my class at Clapham this year and as well as I think I know him seeing him flourish in the comfort of Ashkelon (he's been here every summer and lived here for a year) shows a whole new side of him. Jeffrey is thoughtful, sensitive, and intelligent. Our conversation topic on the way home from the dig today was "How did Satan fall from heaven when there was no sin, Miss Shear?"
And then there's Lucy... spirited, quick, and vivacious. I'm still learning her. =) She's alot of fun, yet loves to be in control. Part of being with Lucy is to make her think everything was her idea. Her most recent question for me has been, "Miss Shear, why do you like to talk to new people and make new friends? I'm not supposed to talk to strangers..."
I'm really enjoying spending time with them and learning their world, as I'm such a stranger to it at the moment. Lots of pool time today with our new Israeli friends!

Above and to the right is the Dan Gardens hotel, our home for the next month!
The view of the Med from my window!
